Lee D. Gustin
Lee D. Gustin is a seasoned aviator with over 50 years of flying experience. Currently serving as a Challenger 350 Pilot for Flexjet LLC since May 2021, he embarked on his aviation journey after being commissioned with the Class of 1977 from the United States Air Force Academy.
During his military career, Colonel Gustin held various roles, including UPT Instructor Pilot, F-4E Flight Commander, and F-117A Instructor Pilot. He retired from active duty in 1992 and joined United Airlines as a pilot. Simultaneously, he served in the Air Force Reserve, contributing to Special Operations Command Pacific and later assuming roles in Air Force Material Command.
Lee Gustin’s commercial flying career with United Airlines spanned multiple aircraft, from Boeing 737s to 787s, retiring as a Boeing 777 Captain in 2020. With a Command Pilot designation and over 23,000 flying hours, he participated in 21 Combat Missions during Operation DESERT STORM, including the first wave attack on Baghdad.
Colonel Gustin’s impressive list of awards includes the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and Aerial Achievement Medal.
Beyond his aviation achievements, Lee is happily married to Kathy Shafer, and they have a daughter, Dr. Tiffany Herrgott, and three grandsons residing in Morgan Hill, CA.
